Wild Black Pepper Grains
In Malagasy, they call it Voatsiperifery, which means "fruit of the tree." Rare and highly prized, wild black pepper grows only at high altitudes in Madagascar's forests. When fully ripe, it has an eye-catching bright red color, while the small reddish-brown oval pods have a distinctive dark brown stem and are harvested and processed by hand by local people.
This extraordinary pepper is a veritable explosion of fragrance, with its long-lasting fruit-laden notes and both citrus and floral undertones.
Used just like black pepper, it has a pleasantly fresh flavor with spicy undertones of fruit and wood. It is also delicious when added to fresh fruit salads, ice cream, sorbets, and sweet and sour dishes. It is an especially appetizing addition to pork and lamb, in fact locals add it fresh to their rice and meat dishes.
